What we love…

Provides great information week by week on your pregnancy that is reliable and informative

What we’d love to see…

How to explain pregnancy to kids, a searchable listing of foods and medications during pregnancy

Summary

Thoughtful app that incorporates many of the things that you wish to know in pregnancy all in one spot

From the makers of What to Expect When you are Expecting, comes “Pregnancy & Baby What to Expect”. This app designed for iOS features a week by week look at pregnancy which you can calculate using your due date and includes helpful tips, videos, foods that you can eat as well as a journal and access to online communities. This one size fits all app, provides a wealth of information all in your smartphone or tablet for you to view and review at your leisure including specific facts about your pregnancy that week, a video of what is going on during the week, common signs and symptoms an expecting mom can expect as well as access to online chat board communities.

The app provides information on a weekly basis that either compares your pregnancy to a fruit or vegetable. In addition, with the new update it includes a short video snippet of what to expect in the upcoming week as well as common symptoms and recommendations on articles to read as well as access to a journal where you can save pictures of your belly to do a slide show over time as well as access to a variety of online communities to talk with other pregnant mothers about a variety of topics. I also think it’s wonderful that the authors took a digital book and made it into an app so that you can have it in your pocket and at a glace learn the latest information about your pregnancy and how the baby is growing.

I would love to see a for kids section, as explaining pregnancy and growth to children is something they have many questions about.  In addition, a listing of safe foods or foods to avoid during pregnancy as well as medications would be a helpful supplement as well.

This app is definitely for parents and it contains external links (to articles), advertising as well as internet links to communities. There are no in-app purchases which lead to the iTunes library that I have found.

KangaDo Parent Organizer by DoLightful Inc., is an app designed for busy parents in mind.  This iPhone app allows you to set up carpools, playdates, child care, and even your own specific “requests” on the go using your iPhone and sharing them with your network.  The app allows you to invite trusted friends, family, babysitters and others to view your “calendar” of requests and then you can choose to make requests of others or fulfill a request when they need it.  The app includes an integrated chat function and allows you to send text messages, photos and even your location.  When sending out a request, you can send it via the app as well as via email and when someone accepts, completes, comments or cancels you are notified via your iPhone.  The app also integrates with your calendar making sure that you remember all of your commitments.

My favorite feature of the app was that it allowed me to connect with friends and make requests on the fly as I needed them.  I also loved that it was able to sync with my calendar which meant I could see it across all of my devices.  It was super easy to use with a very low learning curve.

I wish there was an easier way to invite friends – you currently can use your iPhone contacts or invite by email.  Since not all of the email addresses I have are on my device, it became a bit time consuming to enter all of them.  I would love to see a way to import names/addresses into the app to make it easier to send out a mass invite. The app did pop up a bunch of individuals who were nearby, but I didn’t know any of them so I did not choose to connect with them.  I also would have liked to be able to personalize the invitation out to people rather than just clicking a bunch of names and “invite”.  The invites were sent via my cell phone number – and if someone didn’t have that in their contacts they might have wondered why they were getting the invite.

Great app that allows you as a busy parent to keep track of playdates, carpools, babysitting requests and more.  Works with your iPhone and iOS devices.  This is a parent app  and it made my life much easier!

What we love…

easy to use app which provides you with the ability to take photos and make reports with them and submit them for publication via the app

What we’d love to see…

more instructions on what types of pictures to take

Summary

If you enjoy taking photos – and have many trapped on your device, you should consider trying out Clashot and uploading them for others to see and possibly buy.

Do you enjoy taking photographs using your iPhone?  Do you wish you could make a little bit of money selling them as stock photography?  A new app, Clashot by Depositphotos is a mobile app that allows you to take or use photos that you have taken and then you can upload them to a database of stock photography enabling them to be sold to publications or to the general public.  The app does require registration and acceptance of the terms and conditions which states that the photographs you upload are your own and not taken from someone else.  The app features three options – “wizard” which helps you compile your photos together into a “report” where you can upload several photos of an event or item and then title it, describe it and then categorize it.  You can do this with photos of specific events, nature or any types of photos.  Other options include “feed” where you can see the photos other have taken, “camera” where you can just take photos using the app, “profile” to see information about yourself and photos you have uploaded.

The app was easy and straightforward to use.  I took a few photos using my olloclip lens of nature and tried out the various options in the app.  The app asked  for permission to view your camera roll – which you can turn on and off as you wish.  I also liked that you could have a setting that would allow you to upload photos over wi-fi only which is great for saving your data plan.  I also liked seeing the photos that others uploaded and reports that they provided.

Of note, I did have a few issues with the app crashing, but once I installed the update it seemed to work fine.  You can also upload photos via the internet as well if you are having trouble with the app.  I would also like to see a “tips” section of the app which provides information about the types of pictures that might sell or be best to include in your uploads.

If you enjoy taking photos – and have many trapped on your device, you should consider trying out Clashot and uploading them for others to see and possibly buy.
